Spongebob Squarepants creator, Stephen Hillenburg has died at the age of 57.
Hillenburg was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2017 and has lost his fight with the degenerative disorder.
Hillenburg was, without a doubt, one of the greatest contributors to children’s entertainment in a long time; creating a show that was actually laugh-out-loud funny to both children and adults alike – something that other creators just can’t seem to manage.
Certainly for me and my two sons, the show bridged a cultural gap that had been widened by my inability to floss my way around the game Fortnite, and my sons’ inability to embrace “old” movies such as The Goonies with as much passion as I did at their age.
Thank you Stephen Hillenburg, Godspeed and Rest in Peace.
